The cries turn out to be those of an elderly man in expensive clothes. He was a passenger on the great beast. Now he appears rather distraught.
He is negotiating with several constables, one of whom has began scanning the crowd and talking to by-standers. Stern faces tell you that something has gone awry. You listen to what bits of conversation you can pick up. From what you can gather, some of the train's namesakes have been misappropriated during the arrival festivities. Two large rubies have gone missing.
You look around. If one was to escape the platform, the quickest way would obviously through the station's main entrance. On a day like today, however, it is packed with onlookers. An inconspicuous culprit with time and nerves would have a good chance escaping the scene this way.
Alternatively, you notice that on the far side of the tracks there is a fenced embankment along the railway tracks. A small person could easily have slipped under the train and through the fence into the obscurity of the bushes.
You begin to wonder.
